Background History
Hope for the vulnerable [HftV] was registered in December 2023 as a non-governmental organization in Kenya to champions for the wellbeing of vulnerable people nationally. It is a national NGO with initial mandate to operate in Kisumu, Turkana, Samburu, Nairobi and Kilifi Counties in Kenya. It is currently headquartered in Kisumu City with Field offices in Lodwar Town – Turkana County, Nairobi City – Nairobi County, Maralal Town – Samburu County and Kilifi Town – Kilifi County.
Board and Management Functions
Leadership and Governance
Hope for the vulnerable has established governance board which provides oversight to the organization. The board has chairman, secretary [ CEO] and the treasurer whose functions are well articulated in the organization constitution. HftV Institutional governance is concerned with setting up, implementing and evaluating the processes, systems, practices, and procedures that are vital for the management of the organization. The board ensures that these processes, practices and regulations are applied, followed and enforced. The board of HftV has been given the responsibility of implementing governance and leadership activities for smooth running of the organization, without interfering with the day-to-day management of the institution.
Management
HftV has got the management structure for day-to-day management of the organization. The management consist of executive committee headed by chief executive officer. The other members are directors of programs, operation, advocacy and resource mobilization and Research and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning [MEAL]. Other departments or individuals may be co-opted in to executive committee as per the arising needs. The executive committee is responsible for the development of plans and guidelines, which are shared with the board for concurrence and approval. The directors or sectional heads are under direct supervision of CEO; and under the directors are project staffs as outlined in the organization organogram. The policy information flow from the board through CEO to project staff and feedback on activities flow upward from the beneficiaries through project staff.
Accountability
- The Executive Committee [EC] is accountable to the organization board for its activities.
- The EC monitors the activities of Accounts Section, ensuring the good accounting procedures and practice. Before implementation of any project or plan, it has to be reviewed and approved by EC.
- HftV managements is accountable to the donors that provide resources for the implementation of activities. HftV submits financial reports supported by technical reports as per the donor requirements.
- HftV is also accountable to its beneficiaries for the activities and services provided with the money they receive from different donors.
Transparency
HftV is transparent to:
- the donors and provides all the information as per the donor requirements
- the participants and beneficiaries for the services it offers. It provides information needed by participants and beneficiaries at all levels
- the Partners, and this is vital for continuous collaboration and good partnership. HftV does not hide any information to the stakeholders it is working with.
- the Government and maintains close collaboration with the different Government departments, providing all necessary information to the authorities at all levels
